Celebrating a milestone: Our 100th care home

7 Jun 2023 By Mike Toft, Head of Care Homes

At Octopus Real Estate, we’re excited to have announced a significant achievement in our mission to transform healthcare. As part of our commitment to investing in the people, ideas, and industries that will change the world, we recently reached a momentous milestone: our 100th Care Home within the Octopus Healthcare Fund (OHF) portfolio, which aims to ensure people can access the care they need when they need it.

Revitalising healthcare

To put this milestone into perspective, that equates to us providing over 7,000 much-needed quality care beds across the UK.

We’re one of the major landlords in the UK Care Homes sector; during 2022, we contributed 6.31% (342 beds) of all new high-quality care beds delivered in the UK. Our mission is to create exceptional facilities you’d choose for your loved ones, investing in best-in-class care homes that can also be a catalyst for positive change and impact in a community.

The team

Behind the success of our Care Home investments is a dedicated team of 14 professionals. This team comprises 5 property and investment experts with vast experience in the field. We also have an in-house Clinical Assurance team that frequently visits our homes, providing advice, guidance, and hands-on support to our care home operators.

Did you know?

  • We focus on quality. Only 29% of registered care home beds in the UK have an ensuite wet room, compared with 100% of our beds in OHF.
  • Our portfolio has an average GRESB score of 86/100, a 4-star rating, making us a top performer in our peer group.
  • The average age of an OHF home is just over 4 years, ensuring the portfolio is ‘fit for the future’, allowing us to push our ESG agenda and provide a foundation for the best quality of care to be provided.

Looking ahead

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we remain committed to pioneering advancements in the care home industry. Our next goal is to develop the UK’s first net-zero care home, with the ambitious target of ensuring all newly developed homes achieve net-zero status by 2030.

Here’s to the next 100!
